On March 2nd we are going completely quackers at Matakana Coast's quaziest fun run/walk which is on again at FRUITLOOP 2013. It’s a wonderful festive occasion with hundreds dressed in very ‘original’ costumes from the truly creative to the bizarre to the downright ridiculous!
The afternoon festivity starts at the Matakana Country Park in the marquee with judging of the fancy costumes from 2pm through 2.30pm. This is followed by a short safety briefing at 2.40pm and then the famous Fruitloop warmup where many hundreds perform stretching and rhythmic exercising to music in the big marquee to get the circulations ready for the main event. Then to a massed countdown, the start ‘gun’ sends the more serious runners away at 3pm followed by the walkers and strollers. The enchanting 7 kilometre fun walk run & ramble takes us through a spectacular mandarin orchard, vineyards, olive grove and farmlands usually closed to the public. En route live music entertainments are on several properties, wine tastings are also available and spectacular views of the heartland and hinterland of the beautiful Matakana Coast for those pausing to admire.
At the Fruitloop Marquee our food and wine vendors will welcome you and a new lineup of entertainments with favourites from last year

New in 2013 Fruitloop organisers are able to add some 'wheels' in two flavours. Firstly, this year there have been upgrades to a couple of sections of the course and with our two years' experience of course marshaling etc, we are pleased to welcome 'baby buggies/strollers'. Strollers just need to be aware that the surface varies from sealed, to gravel, to farm field and that there are a couple of short but definite uphills and downhill sections which will require a level of fitness and control. However much of it is level or gentle gradients and all is interesting and scenic and fun with the on-course entertainments and costumes. Strollers just enter in the Cruiser category and we ask that they start at the back of the field and take great care if passing and to please read the web-site section. There is great scope for costumes involving a stroller/buggy.
Secondly, we are planning a wheelchair outing on a subset of the main Fruitloop course. For this first year we intend an 'outing' to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and the festive occasion. It is not planned as an athletic event with racing and is entirely in private grounds with no public roads involved. The 3km course is a 1.5km out and 1.5km back design on sealed private roading through beautiful estate with a private chapel at the halfway point. The chapel doors will be open so the interior may be viewed but no entry is available. Wheelchair Fruitloop entrants need to email Fruitloop organisers and they are invited to participate in the costumes, music and general festivities back at the Marquee.
Please note that other wheels such as skateboards cycles and standard pushchairs are not allowed. Also as this event is on private properties no pets/animals at all.
